Ayurveda training program

 (600 hours)

This is a very high level introductory program in Ayurvedic Medicine providing students with a solid foundation from which to explore the deeper applications of Ayurveda. Students who complete this program may continue their studies to become an Ayurvedic practitioner or begin to integrate what they have learned into complementary modalities (including massage therapy and Yoga). Graduates of this program may also choose to conduct  introductory Ayurvedic workshops. This program combines well with our Ayurvedic Massage course and our Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy training course, providing a deeper foundation from which to practice.

Classes and Curriculum

This program is both theoretical and practical. Students will learn the principles of Ayurveda and apply them to their own lives. Living Ayurveda is the best way to learn Ayurveda. Students will also work on extensive case studies to reinforce the learning process.

Students completing the A.H.C.1 level of training have up to one year to move forward in their training if they wish to continue their education. Credits for Previous Ayurvedic Study

Students of other recognized Ayurvedic programs in the United States may take a placement examination to determine their competency in Ayurvedic principles and practices. This examination covers topics in  the Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) program only. Students who take this exam and do well may be exempted from the AHC training program or be asked to take only specific courses in areas of weakness. Others may be required to attend all classes. The fee for the placement examination is $250.00. This fee may be applied toward future classes in the program that need to be completed.

Ayurvedic Doctors with a B.A.M.S. degree from India may take placement exams for both academic levels of our programs. Each examination is $250.00. Candidates who pass both exams will be allowed to enter directly into our internship programs.

To take an advanced placement exam, a student must first apply and submit evidence of prior ayurvedic training. Please contact the College for further information.

Frequently Asked Questions about Enrollment

1. Why should I choose the California College of Ayurveda for my Ayurvedic education?

Standards: CCA has the highest academic and clinical standards in the West. Our students are well known to be the finest trained in North America. Candle

Success: Because of the clarity, focus and excellence of CCA's educational process, CCA has graduated the most successful practitioners in the country.

Making Medicines: CCA offers the most extensive herbal training in the country. Our program is one of the few in the United States where residents and interns have the opportunity to make each and every medicine they prescribe to their patients and participate in a special herbal apprenticeship program taking herbs from seed to medicine.

Internship: While most internships at other schools still only include observing a teacher seeing patients or performing consultation on other students, CCA’s professional internship program includes both observation and working directly with patients. CCA is also the only school in the country in which C.A.S. interns are paid while they are in school for the work they do. This builds self-esteem and confidence as you go into practice.

Residency: CCA is the only school in the country to offer an advanced paid residency program in disease management.

Cohesive Program: The program at CCA has been refined over an 18-year period. Every facet of CCA's training program is designed to coordinate a student's learning experience. Rather than provide students with seminar teachers who do not coordinate with each other, CCA's teaching staff is a completely integrated unit, meeting regularly, and working together to assure a cohesive learning experience.

Excellence in Teaching Staff: Teachers at CCA are hand-picked by Dr. Halpern for their knowledge, their ability to communicate clearly, and their ability to teach in an organized manner. All teachers also go through special “teacher training” to assure competency in the classroom. Each teacher has also developed important insights into the knowledge and brings these insights into the learning experience of the student. Perhaps most importantly, our faculty is living the principles of Ayurveda every day.

State and National Standards: Dr. Marc Halpern was instrumental in developing the currently accepted national guidelines for ayurvedic practitioner education and is leading the effort to raise those standards nationwide. Your education at CCA exceeds current guidelines and prepares you for the future of Ayurveda in the United States.

Classroom Hours: CCA offers more classroom hours of training in pure ayurvedic knowledge than any other major school in the United States.

Post-Graduate Study in India: Students who graduate from the California College of Ayurveda have several opportunities to participate in training programs and internships in India. CCA has a relationship with several Ayurvedic doctors and hospitals in India where interns can participate in apprenticeships.

Traditional, "Authentic" Ayurvedic Education: CCA is committed to helping students understand the complete science of Ayurveda as it was articulated thousands of years ago by the ancient teachers. This knowledge is contained in three major and three minor texts of Ayurveda written between 1500 B.C. and 1500 A.D.  The curriculum at CCA helps to bring this ancient wisdom to you in a modern and easily understandable format.

2. Where did the titles "Ayurvedic Health Practitioner" and "Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist" originate?

Dr. Marc Halpern developed the title of Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist (C.A.S.) in 1995 for graduates of the California College of Ayurveda who have achieved the school's highest level of training in both health promotion and disease management. The C.A.S. title has become recognized as the highest standard of clinical ayurvedic education offered in the United States. The title Ayurvedic Health Practitioner (A.H.P.) was introduced in 2007 by CCA to recognize our graduates specializing in preventative Ayurvedic medicine.

3. Can my work at CCA help me to receive a Master's degree in Ayurveda?

Yes. The California College of Ayurveda has a memorandum of understanding with Hindu University of America. Students who wish to receive a Master’s Degree may apply their credits of study at CCA toward a Master’s degree. Students who wish to receive their Master's degree in Ayurveda need to complete at least our A.H.P. program to apply. Hindu University then requires that students complete a course in Hinduism and Sanskrit through their university along with a final research thesis paper or two additional electives. All additional course work can be completed through their distance learning program. Please note that in the United States, a Master’s degree does not afford any additional practice rights. The Master’s Degree program is administered by Hindu University of America.

Distance Learning Program The College's Distance Learning Program is a revolutionary program that integrates home schooling, classroom education and a one-to-one relationship with a Master Teacher who guides the students’ education. Distance Learning is available up to the beginning of internship and continues at that time in the form of field-internship and live-internet classes. At that time, the student joins with interns from the classroom program.
TheAyurvedic Health Counselor 1 program may be completed in approximately one year meeting once a month with the Master Teacher. The Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist 1 program may be completed in approximately one additional year. Internships are completed in 6 months each. Thus, it takes approximately 3 years to become a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist
If a Distance Learning student wants to continue to internship they can apply for field internship. All internships begin their internship with an Intensive in Nevada City at the College with an instructor in a small group study session in order to gain hands-on experience in diagnostics and participate in group discussions. The College can assist students in making local housing arrangements.

Ayurveda training online in the distance Learning

Ayurveda training in the Distance Learning Program

ProgramsAt CCA we recognize that not everyone has the ability to put their life on hold, pick up the family, and move to California. This is especially true for international students. With our Distance Learning Program, those limitations no longer have to hold you back from fulfilling your dreams of becoming an Ayurvedic Health Educator or Ayurvedic Health Practitioner.

What makes our Distance Learning Program the Gold Standard in Ayurvedic Education?

  • One of the reasons the CCA’s Distance Learning program is so successful is that it is a highly structured program.  This is not a loosely-administered, open-ended program that students may or may not complete.  Completion rates are very high because the CCA maintains the highest standards of education for this program.  Students in the Distance Learning program are held to the same standards as students in the classroom, and will merge with our classroom students during the internship program.

Monthly conferences with your own personal instructor to keep you motivated, connected, and on target to reach your goals.
The CCA Distance Learning Program combines the best of home schooling, mentorship, and classroom education.
Limited space in the program ensures a premium education strengthening your confidence and ability to succeed while enriching your life of healing others.
