At CCA we recognize that a variety of educational formats are required to meet the desires of multiple individuals. We understand that not everyone has the ability to put their life on hold, pick up the family, and move to California. With our Distance Learning Program, those limitations no longer have to hold you back from fulfilling your dreams of becoming an Ayurvedic Health Educator or Ayurvedic Health Practitioner.

What makes our Distance Learning Program the Gold Standard in Ayurvedic Education?

Monthly conferences with your own personal instructor to keep you motivated, connected, and on target to reach your goals.

• The CCA Distance Learning Program combines the best of home schooling, mentorship, and classroom education.

• Limited space in the program ensures a premium education strengthening your confidence and ability to succeed while enriching your life of healing others.

• Monthly start dates let you control your schedule and enjoy a program that fits your life.

• Certificate presentation at each level of completion lets the world know you are an expert in your field.

• Full graduation ceremony for Level 2 graduates shares your accomplishments with friends and family recognizing your success.

The California College of Ayurveda is a world leader in Ayurvedic education. Our founder, Dr. Marc Halpern, is a Western pioneer of Ayurvedic Medicine and a founding director of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine. He is a strong advocate of professional training and of high standards of education. It is this commitment that drives the quality of our programs.

We invite you to join us and become a certified Ayurvedic Health Educator or Practitioner in the comfort of your home.

Let us show you how it is possible to support your family while still having time to enjoy them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does CCA offer Distance Learning?
Answer: Because we recognize that different formats of education meet the needs of different kinds of students.

Q: Is the certificate received for completing the Distance Learning Program the same as the certificate received for completing the in-class A.H.E. and A.H.P. programs?
Answer: Yes. Level one of our Distance Learning Program leads to an A.H.E. certification. However, only the academic portion of the A.H.P. program can be completed through Distance Learning. The internship portion of the A.H.P program requires additional class time at one of our locations.

Q. What parts of the program cannot be completed through the Distance Learning Program?
Answer: The internship portion of the AHP program and the CAS program residency. However, the AHP internship may be completed through a “Field Internship”, the details of which are outlined in our catalog.

Q. How are diagnostic skills learned through the Distance format?
Answer: Diagnostics is studied academically and then practiced during the in-person, five-day intensive that follows the completion of the academic portion of each level of the program.

Q. How are herbs learned through the distance format?
Answer: The application of herbal medicines is first studied from an academic perspective. On-site training in the preparation of herbal medicines is part of the AHP program and marks the beginning of internship. This training takes place in Grass Valley.

Q. How is the cost of the Distance Learning Program different from the in-class program?
Answer: There is no difference; the tuition, along with all other fees, with the exception of textbook costs (see catalog).

Q. Can I transfer from the Distance Learning Program to the in-class program if I want to at a later date?
Answer: Yes, a small fee may apply.

Q: Are payment plans and financial aid available for this program?
Answer: Yes, monthly payments and Sallie Mae student loans are available.

Q: How long does it take to complete the Distance Learning Program?
Answer: Students typically complete level one in 11-13 months. The academic portion of level two takes an additional 11-13 months.

Q: How do I take tests?
Answers: You will take a formal midterm and final exam for each level of the course. These exams will be proctored by a proctor in your community, often at a public library or local community college campus. Our staff can assist you in how to go about finding a proctor. There is a small extra fee that will be paid directly to the proctor by the student.

Q. Who are the Master Teachers and what kind of contact will I have with them?
Answer: Master Teachers are graduates of the California College of Ayurveda handpicked by Dr. Halpern to facilitate this process. Many of them are faculty members of the College and/or supervisors of Clinical Internship.

Students and Master Teachers meet over the phone once per month for one hour to review concepts, projects, homework, and open-book quizzes. Students also have the opportunity to call their Master Teacher if necessary for 15 minutes of additional phone support each week to ask questions. Students may also email questions to the Master Teacher.

Q. What are the dates of the five-day intensives at the Grass Valley campus?
Answer: Intensives for each level will be held three times each year.

Q. About how many hours per week will I spend studying?
Answer: Study hours differ from individual to individual, but students are likely to spend approximately 15 hours per week studying their material and completing assignments.

Q. When can I start?
Answer: You may begin the program on the first of any month following enrollment into the program. You are encouraged to apply immediately as there will likely be a waiting list.

Q. How do I enroll?
Answer: You may call the College for a catalog and application or you may download an application from our web site. Please include the standard application fee of $55 with your application. Once accepted, you will receive an enrollment packet, containing further course information and enrollment documents to fill out, sign and return to the college.
