Fascinating Talk by Dr. Kevin Spelman: “DNA & Your Ayurvedic Constitution”

Stay Updated with the News & Latest Blogs of CCA.

At the 3rd Annual Sivananda Ayurveda Conference, Dr. Kevin Spelman, an accomplished molecular biologist, gave a fascinating talk on the scientific model as it relates to ancient Ayurvedic teachings. Dr. Spelman offers a unique perspective on understanding Ayurveda, layering the scientific model with a substratum of recognizing the divine in all things.
As Dr. Spelman says: “The Ancient Seers had profound insight into the understanding of constitution from an energetic perspective. They strove to understand constitution on all levels/layers of the human experience. Modern medicine once embraced constitutional models of medicine but such models fell out of favor as science became more reductionist in the early 20th century. Intriguingly, the Human Genome Project is bringing us back to embracing a constitutional model of medicine in the 21st century.  However, it is focused (some would say over-focused) on DNA as a chemical entity. If we view DNA as energy, or waves, it may offer further insights into how our environments influence us. This is particularly true when we consider thoughts and emotions, and their long-term effects on us.”
The bottom line of his amazing talk: Current research supports the ancient Ayurvedic concept of vata, pitta and kapha. Turns out, the ancient seers and rishis truly knew what they were talking about! Of course, that comes as no surprise to those of us who study Vedic teachings…
