Ayurveda and Ama (Toxins) Within the Body

“Ama is a toxin that is created within the digestive system in response to poor digestion. Ama means, “unripe or undigested.” Ama overflows from the digestive system, coats the cells of the body and mixes with the doshas. Together ama and the doshas enter the dhatus and srotamsi (channels) of the body and interfere with the normal functions of the affected tissue. Ama complicates disease.

At the California College of Ayurveda, we offer four levels of training, beginning with a very high level introductory program in Ayurvedic Medicine, providing students with a solid foundation from which to explore the deeper applications of Ayurveda. Students who complete this program may continue their studies to become an Ayurvedic practitioner or begin to integrate what they have learned into complementary modalities (including massage therapy and Yoga).
