Frequently Asked Questions

Yoga Nidra, or "yogic sleep," is a guided relaxation practice that leads participants through a structured sequence toward a profound state of rest with deep awareness.

Students move between lecture, direct experience, and facilitated discussion over 32 hours, building an understanding of Yoga Nidra's philosophy and science while practicing how to guide sessions themselves, with real-time feedback.

The training is designed for yoga teachers, wellness and mental health professionals, Ayurvedic practitioners, and healthcare or hospice professionals who want to offer structured, therapeutic relaxation in their work.

The training is held at the California College of Ayurveda's Nevada City, California campus, about 90 minutes from Sacramento International Airport. Full attendance is required, and early departures are not permitted.

Published research has associated Yoga Nidra practice with measurable changes in physiological markers and brain activity, along with reductions in mild depression and anxiety, though findings for more severe symptoms are limited (Pandi-Perumal et al., 2022).

California College of Ayurveda is state-approved, not accredited. It was the first state-approved Ayurvedic college in the United States, receiving state approval for its programs in 1996.
