The Most Advanced Level of Ayurvedic Education

The Medical Ayurvedic Specialist (MAS) Program is CCA’s capstone certification: the highest level of clinical training the college offers. MAS graduates are trained for a scope of practice spanning both preventive medicine and the management of patients with disease, with the depth of clinical training to integrate effectively with the Western medical community and serve as a bridge between the two systems of medicine. The program combines advanced coursework with a supervised Medical Ayurvedic Specialist Internship, building directly on the clinical foundation established in the Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist (CAS) Program.

Full-time pacing: Approximately 3.5 years total across five required courses.
Weekend/mentorship pacing: Approximately 4 years.
Prerequisites: Completion of the Principles of Ayurvedic Medicine (PAM), Clinical Ayurvedic Medicine (CAM), Ayurvedic Health Counselor Internship (AHCi), Clinical Specialist Internship (CASi) courses. A minimum of 24 college credits, including 6 credits in the sciences (Anatomy and/or Physiology), is also required.

Tuition: $34,684 total for all four required courses and the required internship. Payment plans and scholarships are available.
Final exam: Comprehensive cumulative clinical examination required

Training for Integrative Practice at the Highest Level

MAS is designed for practitioners ready to operate at the outer edge of Ayurvedic clinical training: seeing patients, interpreting laboratory findings through both an Ayurvedic and Western lens, and engaging critically with clinical research. MAS students will:

  • Understand how to interact effectively with the Western medical community
  • Interpret laboratory findings from both an Ayurvedic and Western medical perspective
  • Understand the importance of research, and read research papers with a critical eye
  • Support patients undergoing surgery using Ayurvedic methods
  • Explore the microbiome and microbiota, and how Ayurveda can be used to address them
  • Learn the most advanced pulse-taking procedures
  • Gain maximum confidence and competence conducting one-on-one patient consultations

The MAS Intensive

The program opens with a 12-day Intensive built to prepare students for advanced clinical work:

  • Days 1–9 (hybrid, online or on-campus): Laboratory Diagnosis & Special Testing, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Introduction to Surgery, Toxicology, Research Methodology, and Paperwork Requirements for documenting consultations
  • Days 10–12 (required in-person, MASi): Advanced Pulse Diagnosis – perceiving subtle pulse qualities and the ten pairs of opposite qualities, and practicing diagnosis with the general public

Distance-learning students should note that this in-person component is required: hands-on Ayurvedic diagnostic training during the CAS and MAS internships cannot be completed remotely.

The Internship Experience

Throughout the internship, students attend weekly classes covering patient management and case studies alongside their clinical work, and complete a minimum of 100 additional patient visits plus 50 or more additional patient encounters through group work during intensives and weekly meetings.

On-site interns receive a stipend of $60 per patient visit, up to $3,000 over a completed internship. Off-site interns retain the equivalent or greater in patient fees, with a $75 initial-visit and $35 follow-up-visit fee returned to CCA per patient.

Prerequisites & Eligibility

  • Completion of the Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist Internship (CASi) is required before beginning MAS.
  • Students must also have earned a minimum of 24 college credits (approximately one year of undergraduate study), including 6 credits in the sciences such as Anatomy and/or Physiology.

Delivery & Location

MAS is available onsite in the classroom, live online, and through distance learning/mentorship. Students studying at a distance are required to travel to CCA’s Nevada City campus for a short onsite intensive to learn hands-on Ayurvedic diagnostic procedures; this occurs during the CAS and MAS internships.

Final Examination & Credential

  • A comprehensive cumulative clinical examination is required to complete the program.
  • Graduates receive a Certificate.
