Chronic Inflammation, Tips for Yoga Practice

According to KP Khalsa, huge numbers of us are, without even knowing it, experiencing “silent Inflammation” – chronic inflammation that can affect your heart, brain, immune system. This may just be the next big thing that everyone begins talking about; basically, slowly cooking inside. Ouch. What herbs can help prevent this from occurring and/or reverse it if it’s already happening? Gotu kola, aloe vera, ashwagandha, turmeric, amla, and licorice to name a few.

And speaking of turmeric (KP’s favorite herb), the incident of Alzheimer’s is considerably lower in India than elsewhere in the world; the US has a frequency 8 times greater than India. Why might this be? Many current studies are centering on the consumption in India of turmeric. Says KP: “turmeric is exquisitely beneficial for preventing Alzheimer’s” – and perhaps even stopping the advancement of the disease if one already has it. He recommends adding 1 gram per day to your food – every single day of your life!

For all you yogis out there – what herbs does KP recommend for you, to enhance your yoga practice? Yogaraj Guggulu and turmeric (again!) to enhance your practice physically; tulsi, guduchi, gotu kola, brahmi, shankhapushpi, calamus, hibiscus, punarnava for the mind; and a massage with Mahanarayan oil for aches and pains.

As KP Khalsa says, herbs are a form of energy; they are concentrated prana that comes from the sun.” And he adds: “An ounce of taking an herb is worth a pound of just thinking about it!”
