Free Yoga Therapy Webinar: When the Sequence Doesn’t Fit the Student

A free live webinar with Dr. Marc Halpern
— explore real career paths in Ayurvedic medicine.

Overview

Every yoga teacher has stood in front of a student the sequence didn’t serve.

In this free 45-minute session, Dr. Marc Halpern and Elle Walker Buckton of the California College of Ayurveda take a single presenting complaint — the chronically exhausted student, the one with persistent low back pain — and show why that same complaint calls for genuinely different practices depending on the student’s constitution. Where one practice slows and grounds, another does the opposite. Same limb of yoga, opposite application.

Underneath that judgement sits a body of classical material: samprapti, the complete pathway by which disease unfolds; the five vayus, the three gunas and the three nadis; the seven chakras, kundalini and the five bodies; and karma and dharma as they bear on healing: the substance of Classical Yoga Therapy.

It is the thinking behind all three of the College’s October Workshops, and you will leave each one of those workshops able to do slightly more than you could before.

What You'll Learn

  • Why constitution, not diagnosis, decides what a therapeutic practice should do
  • How a single complaint — fatigue, pain, anxiety — resolves into different practices for vata, pitta and kapha students
  • Where asana, pranayama and meditation each do their work, and when to reach for which
  • How to read the student in front of you when the sequence you planned clearly is not serving them
  • What separates a yoga therapist from a yoga teacher, in practice rather than in title
  • How the College’s three October trainings fit together, and which one matches where you are now
  • Live questions with both instructors

Why Attend?

Both instructors are in the room. Dr. Marc Halpern founded the California College of Ayurveda in 1995 and teaches Classical Yoga Therapy. Elle Walker Buckton teaches Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy. Between them they teach the full arc, and you can ask either of them directly.

It is genuinely free, and it is recorded. If you cannot make Tuesday evening, register anyway. The recording goes to everyone who signed up.

Who Should Attend?

  • Yoga teachers who keep meeting students their training did not prepare them for
  • 200-hour graduates considering where to take their teaching next
  • Yoga therapists and bodyworkers who want a clinical framework underneath what they already do
  • Nurses, nutritionists and other health professionals exploring Ayurveda as a complement to their practice
  • Anyone considering the College’s October Workshops who would like to meet the faculty first

No prior study of Ayurveda is required, and no prior study of Ayurveda is assumed.
